Diabetic and High Risk Foot Service

From 31st March 2019 all diabetic acute/urgent foot referrals can be e-mailed directly to :

urgentdiabeticfootnorth@nhs.net for patients in the north of the county (Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough, Rushden etc.) and

urgentdiabeticfootsouth@nhs.net for the south of the county (Northampton central and surrounding areas, Daventry, Towcester, Brackley etc.)

Please note that the following constitutes an “acute/urgent” referral:

  • Diabetic foot ulcer or pre-ulcer
  • Puncture wound
  • Infection or inflammation
  • Critical limb ischaemia
  • Gangrene
  • Suspected Charcot neuroarthropathy (or any unexplained red, hot and swollen diabetic foot with or without pain).


ALL other referrals i.e. All non-urgent diabetic referrals and all non-diabetic referrals that meet the services access criteria (see CCG access criteria document) should be e-mailed to:


Please note that all referrals MUST either be completed on our referral form or be a full written referral outlining reason for referral, medical history and current medications. Referrals that are not in either of these formats will not be accepted and will be returned to the referrer for completion. A word document copy of our referral form is attached for your use.
